Lobsters can live for 20 years and maximum up to 40 years or more. The minimum landing size for Lobster is 87mm carapace and this size is over 4 and 8 years old. They generally grow in size by moulting and shedding their shells at regular basis. After shedding these lobsters hides until the shell on it gets harder. In the case of female lobsters, the moulting process will not happen when they are carrying eggs as the eggs may be lost.

Matured female lobster carry 30,000 -40,000 eggs, depending on their size and age. The aged and oldest female can carry the maximum no of eggs. These eggs are in black color when they are laid and then change to brown color with a spot on them which called as eye and gradually they will change into bright orange which is an indication that they are going to hatch.

Hatching is purely dependent on the water temperature and this can happen between May and September. The hatched larvae will seek for suitable rocky bottom habitat to settle down and develop into juvenile Lobsters.
